OPIE welcomes new students from Mexico

This summer, OPIE is excited to host 25 students from two universities in Mexico (Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Jocotitlán and the Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Tianguistenco). These students have traveled to Ohio University as participants of the Proyecta 100,000 Program, a government-sponsored student mobility program that aims for academic and cultural exchange between the two countries—Mexico and the United States—in order to strengthen their economic and academic ties. The Mexican government plans to send 100,000 students from Mexico to study in the U.S. higher educational institutions by 2018.

The students from Mexico now live in OHIO residence halls, take English courses, participate in a conversation partner program, and are busy getting to know Athens and the university. In addition, they will use their weekends to learn more about Ohio, traveling to the historic Columbus Statehouse and also to Cincinnati, where they will stay with a family during a weekend homestay.  Welcome again!
