The Fulbright Program provides study abroad opportunities to scholars with outstanding leadership and academic skills. Ohio University and the Ohio Program of Intensive English welcomed 49 Fulbright scholars from five different continents this summer. The scholars arrived on July 23rd and participated in pre-academic workshops conducted by OPIE faculty. The workshops covered topics like academic culture, academic research, English skills, technology, and practical skills for living in the U.S. The scholars were housed in the Tanaka Hall, the new residence hall on campus. They participated in service learning activities in partnership with Rural Action, Team Heart and Sole, and United Campus Ministry. The scholars also enjoyed some cultural experiences, such as attending the local performance of Man of La Mancha, visiting Marietta, and watching a rodeo at the Athens County Fair. The scholars said “goodbye” to Ohio University at the OPIE Farewell Banquet on Thursday, August 11th. They will go on to continue their studies at various universities in the U.S., including the University of Michigan, Texas A&M University, and Ohio State University. The Ohio Program of Intensive English wishes the Fulbright scholars continued success in their future endeavors.
