On Friday, February 24, 2017, OPIE faculty and students came together to congratulate students who graduated from OPIE in Spring 2016, Summer 2016, and Fall 2016. A total of 80 people attended the ceremony in the Nelson Dining Hall Banquet Room, 18 of which were OPIE graduates. OPIE Ambassador, Ricardo Molina gave the opening comments and introduced Dr. Krzic. Words of congratulations for the Graduates followed from Dr. Gerard Krzic, the director of OPIE, Dr. Chris Thompson, chair of the Department of Linguistics, and Dr. Laurie Hatch, Associate Dean for Students, Curriculum and Instruction. Then the graduates also heard from their own peers. OPIE Alumni Shaima AlBalushi, Bowen Shi, Eman Alshami, and Mingze Gao gave wonderful speeches about their experiences in OPIE and words of wisdom for current OPIE students and graduates. After the speeches, the graduates in attendance received their certificates. The event was catered by Ohio University and guest could enjoy hors d’oeuvre before and after the ceremony. All of us in OPIE wish the graduates success and happiness in all of their future endeavors!
