A group of 34 Japanese students from Chubu University in Kasugai, Japan arrived at Ohio University on August 26th. Ohio University and OPIE have had a long standing relationship with Chubu University and, we are very pleased to see this relationship continue to grow. The Chubu students take fluency classes through the Ohio Program of Intensive English to develop their English skills, and they also take the COMS 1030 classes alongside American students. Additionally, the Chubu students have a service learning component to their experience here which requires them to provide service to the Ohio University campus and the Athen’s community. The students have several fun events planned for this semester, including trips to Amish Country, Kings Island, and Washington D.C. On September 14th, the students had their annual Welcome Banquet. Speeches were given by Dr. Thompson, Chair of the Linguistics Department, Dr. Krzic, OPIE Director, and Lorna Jean Edmonds, Vice Provost for Global Affairs and International Studies. If you see the Chubu students around campus, please give them a big welcome!
