Dr. Lei Wang is currently a research specialist in a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Wang attended OPIE classes in 1998 and 1999. After completing English language studies, Dr. Wang continued academic studies and, in 2004, earned a PhD in Biological Sciences.
According to Dr. Wang, OPIE was an important step before beginning academic classes full time. “OPIE allowed me to take time getting familiar with the English speaking environment and US culture prior to jumping into intense academic work. I only registered [for] one course the first quarter besides OPIE classes, but [I] took two major courses the next quarter and aced both of them.” Dr. Wang recommends this approach to all international students.
